NUS Academic Committee

The Academic Committee gives the members of the Neuroscience Undergraduate Society a chance to play an active role in the academic-professional events that are held throughout the year, such as the Lab Placement Fairs, Symposium, etc etc. Members of the Academic Committee suggest professors for the Professor-Student Luncheons, assist in the recruitment of researchers for the lab fair, help with the scheduling of the Symposium, and propose new academic events for the undergraduate society.

Journal Club

Journal Club is a group that meets weekly to discuss seminars and papers shaping the field of neuroscience. Although you do not need to be pursuing honors to be a part of the club, membership is a popular option for students looking to fulfill the honors component tied to NS 101A. To fulfill honors requirements, students are expected to write page-long responses to the provided papers, attend at least 3 talks/seminars over the course of the quarter and ear a B or higher in NS 101A. Journal club membership can fulfill both departmental and college honors requirements. If you have any questions please reach out to Saman and Anthony  at nusjournalclub@gmail.com

Study Buddy

Our Study Buddy Program holds study sessions that mainly focus on the lower division pre-requisite courses for all life science majors and upper division classes for neuroscience major. These study sessions include study guides, extra practice problems, and refreshments. This Fall, these sessions are being held for NS 101A, Chemistry 153A and Chemistry 14C. We welcome all of you who major in Biology, MCDB, MIMG, Physiological Sciences, Psychobiology, etc. Do not hesitate to contact Bobbi if you have any particular request for the study session.

Mentor-Mentee

The Mentor-Mentee Program is designed to help incoming underclassman NUS members navigate through their life at UCLA. Each new member will be paired with a single mentor. In this one year-long commitment, the mentors would provide personal advice, guidance, and support for the mentee. We also have socials to meetup with other mentor-mentee pairs to share thoughts along the way.

Academic Enrichment Committee

The Academic Enrichment Committee dedicates to provide research resources and connection with professors for our members. We organize events such as professor luncheons, lab placement fairs, and “Are You Smarter than a College Student”. Feel free to contact us if you want to nominate a professor to have luncheons/ coffee chat with, or have any questions about our events!

Treasurer

Our Treasurer applies for funding to supplement member dues in order for NUS to host and organize events throughout the year. He is also the point person for membership questions, from payment of dues to event attendance to graduation cord eligibility.

Member Outreach

Responsible for all things social media, the Member Outreach Chair maintains both the NUS Facebook Page and this website. They send out weekly emails for NUS members, announce new events, keep track of attendance and membership status and frequently update upcoming activities.

SENIOR VIDEO PROJECT

We ask that all NUS members help out in creating a memorable Senior Video Project by taking photos or video recordings throughout the year in their lectures, labs (if allowed), or any NEUROSCIENCE events and submitting them to the NUS BOARD. Keep in mind that this project will be shown at the end of the year at graduation, and it is meant to be MEMORABLE FOR THE GRADUATING SENIORS and their friends, family, and professors. Feel free to be creative and include close-ups, brief interviews, funny moments, etc. The NUS Board will then edit the submissions and integrate them into a final piece that will be a mix of video, slideshow, interviews, and music.

Thank you very much for your time and effort,

NUS BOARD
